Penn Theta Brothers Speak Up
In last month’s e-letter, we sent out a survey to our Penn Theta Alumni. Now, we’d like to share some of our favorite responses with you! Chuck Bolton ‘61
“I pledged at Penn Theta and was a brother there for one year, living in the house. I subsequently transferred to the University of Florida and Florida Upsilon Chapter. However, upon reflection, I realized it was the impact of Penn Theta which really set my path for interactions with others.
The geographical and personality diversities of the brothers and the chapter focus on SAE values there gave me perspectives on addressing many issues which have been encountered since.”

“I treasured the time that I spent with my brothers during my undergraduate years at Penn and I am and will be forever grateful that they gave me a place where I felt welcome, appreciated, and supported. That really says it all for me. I am proud to support SAE in the hope that it continues to provide the same benefits and cherished memories to young men at Penn now.”

“The fraternity was an important part of my experience at Penn. In these times, the entire fraternity culture is under constant threat from outside parties that want to see this element of campus life abolished. It’s important to me that the active brothers know the alumni community stands behind them, both in spirit and monetarily. The SAE experience left me with best friends for life. These are friends that I hold more dear than those made at other times in my life. The networking opportunities available to SAE alumni are unparalleled. We are one of the largest fraternities with extremely accomplished alumni across the country in virtually every industry. I stay in touch with a half dozen routinely and another dozen or so periodically. I’m still in Baltimore doing residency, getting married in May. Otherwise, same old.”

“Honestly, my favorite experience with SAE was the pledging process. I absolutely hated it at the time, but now I fully understand the meaning behind the colloquialism “it’s the best time you never want to have again”. The bonds I forged and the crazy antics we got into are some of the best memories and most hilarious stories I have.
I think the SAE Alumni association should organize to educate chapters on how to conduct themselves as actual True Gentlemen in all their affairs and do something to push back against the negative public image we’ve gotten as a result of certain chapters. As far as outreach and networking, we do a pretty good job on that front.
I live with Nick Marini, I’m a groomsman in Ryan Soroka’s wedding, and I see Tighe Costa a lot too… I miss Chris Sener every day, and I wish I could see more of Shak Greeley and Seth Harrison.
I’m working at an awesome startup in LA during the day, and at night I’m a professional music producer and session vocalist with credits on Warner Chappell, Triple Crown Records, and Bonfire Records.”
